On 11 July, the Laudato Si’ Green Festival took place at the Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School, Wanyange, Jinja -a city located on the shore of Lake Victoria. Fr. Peter Caxton Mayanja, the East Africa Provincial of the religious Congregation of Holy Cross missionaries, celebrated the Laudato Si’ Green Festival Mass.

Celebrated under this year’s theme of “Environmental Conservation for Peace and Sustainable Development,” the Green Festival was organised by the Laudato Si Club of Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School, Wanyange, under the Laudato Youth Initiative.  The Initiative is a youth-led climate and ecological action programme rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, inspired by Pope Francis’ 2015 ecological encyclical: Laudato Si’.

Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School is a mixed day and boarding O and A level school in Wanyange, Jinja. The school is owned by the Congregation of Holy Cross Province of East Africa and aims to provide holistic, value-based education.
